NEW YORK (AP) – The maker of Barbie says it can promote a doll modeled after Ibtihaj Muhammad, an American fencer who competed in final yr’s Olympics whereas sporting a hijab.
Mattel Inc. says the doll might be out there on-line subsequent fall. The doll is a part of the Barbie “Shero” line that honors ladies who break boundaries. Previous dolls have included gymnast Gabby Douglas and “Selma” director Ava DuVernay.
Muhammad stated on Twitter that she was “proud” that younger individuals will be capable of play with “a Barbie who chooses to put on hijab!”
Muhammad, the primary American to compete on the Olympics whereas sporting a hijab, gained a bronze medal in fencing on the 2016 Rio Video games.
