Body found in river identified as missing woman, 26


A body pulled from the Hackensack River over the weekend has been identified as a missing 26-year-old woman from Bogota, police said Tuesday.

Sylvia A. Lubak was found in the river behind The Shops at Riverside, around 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Hackensack, according to police.

Lubak was reported missing to Bogota police in December, Bogota Detective Victor Negron said.

The detective said an investigation was ongoing and more details were not immediately available.

Lubak, who immigrated to the United States from Poland when she was eight, enjoyed painting, according to her obituary. She attended Becton Regional High School in East Rutherford and then studied at New York University, it said.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service, 80 Midland Ave., Wallington. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 127 Paterson Ave., Wallington.
