Energy shut off in Jersey Metropolis neighborhood after automotive hearth, officers say

A portion of the Country Village section of Jersey City is without power this morning after a “fully involved” car fire, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to 46 Suburbia Drive today at 6:45 a.m. and found wires down in the street and a car engulfed by flames, Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Scalcione said.

The fire extended to the exterior of two homes, as well as two other vehicles, before it was knocked down, Scalcione added.

No one was injured in the fire, but PSE&G has shut off power to high power lines in the area, leaving more than 960 customers without electricity, according to the utility’s online outage map.

Power is expected to be restored by 11:30 a.m., according to the map.
