The installation of a doorbell surveillance camera paid off for a Jersey City homeowner and his 93-year-old mother last week when three strangers entered their home.
The Terrace Avenue homeowner came home from work on Jan. 18 and found that roughly $900 was missing from the home while his mother was alone there that day, police spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.
So the homeowner installed the Ring doorbell surveillance system and on Feb. 8 he was alerted that three men, at least two of them with walkie-talkies, had entered his home after the door was opened for one of them.
In a video of the men outside the door, which was posted on Facebook, the homeowner’s mother allowed one of the men in after the man said “do you remember me?”
The homeowner, who was at work at the time, called home and spoke to the men, who fled roughly two minutes after entering, the video of the incident showed. Police responded and it appeared that nothing had been taken in the Feb. 8 episode, Wallace-Scalcione said.
No arrests have been made and the incidents are under investigation. Police could not say for certain that the men who gained access to the home on Feb. 8 were responsible for the Jan. 18 incident.
