Wild escape of 4 juvenile prisoners prompts 16 school closings

EGG HARBOR CITY  — Dozens of faculties can be shut Wednesday as officers seek for 4 juveniles who attacked a guard, stole his automotive and fled from a youth detention facility in New Jersey.

The escape occurred on the Harborfields Youth Detention Facility in Egg Harbor Metropolis round 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Workplace says the youths overpowered the guard and drove off in his automotive. They sideswiped one other car earlier than they crashed into a house and ran from the scene.

The guard was taken to a hospital.

One of many suspects is eighteen, one is 17 and two are sixteen-years-previous. No names have been launched.

Egg Harbor Metropolis’s faculties are closed as a precaution following the escape. Hamilton Township faculties and the Larger Egg Harbor Regional Faculty District are additionally closed.
